History

Sierra Coating Technologies’ legacy products were branded printing substrates. Originally a division of Shade Information System (the Shade/ Allied coated products division), Sierra began as a coater of carbonless business forms and ink jet coated office papers. In 1997 the division was re-branded as Sierra Coating Technologies and sold to the current owners when Shade/Allied was sold to American Pad & Paper Company.

Early products like premium ink jet papers, high gloss color and high barrier packaging papers became Sierra’s major markets. As the internet became an important resource for finding new vendors, Sierra attracted a wide and diverse customer base looking for a manufacturing source to make new products that would grow their companies’ product offerings.

Sierra Coating Technologies was defined by the superior equipment that was developed as part of Shade/Allied. The primary coaters are Gravure coating systems for high precision application of coatings. The addition of modern flotation drying equipment and drive systems, along with lamination machines and finishing rewinding equipment, enabled Sierra to manufacture a broad line of coated products. Sierra has also continued to improve its facilities with major expansions in 2011 and 2016. Sierra’s facilities are designed to meet FDA and high-quality manufacturing requirements.

Under its current ownership Sierra’s mission has been to build new products. Sierra has a 20+ year history of helping brand owners with the manufacturing of made-to order products and packaging. Sierra specializes in making products that help companies enter growing markets. Using our wide web laminating and coating equipment, Sierra brings high-quality, efficient manufacturing to the converting of paper and films.

Currently Sierra services customers in many industries ranging from food packaging and food service, cosmetics, and electronics, to home decorating and building construction.
